CEILING AND CONCEALED · BY ARRANGEMENT

Air conditioning in the ceiling or boxed in out of sight

A ceiling unit sits in the ceiling, and a concealed unit disappears into a boxed-in section or a cupboard. With a ceiling unit you only see the panel, with a concealed unit only the grille. It's a bigger job than a wall-mounted unit, which is why Rein comes to take a look first.

Peter opens the grille of an air conditioning unit built into a boxed-in section below the ceiling.

WHERE IT FITS

When a ceiling or concealed unit fits

  • If you'd rather not see the unit

    • All you see is a grille or a panel.
    • It doesn't take up any wall or floor space.
    • There's space above the ceiling, or room to box it in.
  • More work than a wall-mounted unit

    • Building it in takes more work, so the price is higher.
    • The engineer needs good access later for maintenance.
    • Whether it's possible depends on your ceiling and the space above it.

THE PRICE

First a look, then a fixed price

For a ceiling or concealed unit, we don't give a price up front. What it costs depends on your ceiling, the space above it and the route the pipework can take to the outdoor unit.

That's why Rein comes to take a look first. After that you get a fixed price, with what's included in it. During the visit he looks at:

  • Where the unit can go
  • How the pipework and the condensate drain run
  • Where the outdoor unit can go
  • How the engineer can reach it later

Want to know where you stand beforehand? Then see whether a wall-mounted unit fits: for that one, we quickly work out what it costs.

Peter stands on a scaffold and marks high on the wall where the unit will go.

What does a ceiling unit cost?

We don't give a price up front for it. Building it in is more work than hanging a wall-mounted unit, and how much more depends on your ceiling. Rein comes to take a look first and then gives you a fixed price.

What's the difference between a ceiling unit and a concealed unit?

A ceiling unit sits in the ceiling, and you see the panel the air comes out of. A concealed unit is hidden in a boxed-in section or a cupboard, and all you see is the grille, as in the photo at the top.

Can the engineer still get to it later?

That's a must. So Rein also looks at how the maintenance will work: the grille or the panel has to be able to open.

Who does the maintenance on air conditioning in the ceiling?

We do it ourselves. You arrange the maintenance on airco-onderhouden.nl, our site for maintenance and breakdowns.

What do you do during the installation?

We make the wall opening and lay the pipework, do a pressure test with nitrogen and pull a vacuum on the system. Then we commission it and check it. We explain how the controls work, and we fit an installation label with the correct installation details. For us, the pressure test is a really important step: we put the pipework under pressure with nitrogen to check that it is leak-tight, before any refrigerant goes in. We also record the details on the installation label in our own records.

What warranty do I get?

You get a standard 2-year warranty, on top of your statutory rights. Have Airco Holland service it every year from the moment it is installed, and the Mitsubishi Heavy Industries manufacturer's warranty runs on for up to 5 years. Airco Holland is certified by Mitsubishi Heavy Industries to offer this. The extension to 5 years applies to an air conditioner installed by Airco Holland, counted from the installation date. It starts once your maintenance plan is in place and the first service has been carried out and paid for. Skip the yearly maintenance and the extension lapses. You arrange the maintenance on airco-onderhouden.nl.

AIR CONDITIONING YOU DON'T SEE

Could it go in your ceiling?

Call or email Rein about the room where the air conditioning will go, and where you live. He'll come and see whether a ceiling or concealed unit fits, and then gives you a price.

Peter works on the pipe above a garden door; a white duct runs tight along wall and ceiling.
