How many kW of air conditioning do I need?

That depends on the m² of the room. Rein chooses an indoor unit of 2 kW up to 20 m², 2.5 kW up to 30 m², 3.5 kW up to 40 m² and 5 kW up to 60 m². If the room is bigger, he comes to take a look first.

Is an air conditioner a heat pump?

Yes, an air-to-air heat pump: it takes heat from the outside air and blows it warm into a room. It only heats the room with the indoor unit in it, and it doesn't make hot water. Read the full answer

Can I get a subsidy for air conditioning?

No. An air conditioner is an air-to-air heat pump, and the RVO (the Netherlands Enterprise Agency) doesn't give an ISDE subsidy for that. We checked this with the RVO on 22 October 2026.

Can I have air conditioning installed if I rent?

Ask your landlord for permission first. According to the Dutch government, your landlord must respond within 8 weeks, and may only refuse if the home would become harder to let or lose value as a result. Read the full answer

Is Mitsubishi Heavy Industries the same as Mitsubishi Electric?

No. They are two different manufacturers that both have Mitsubishi in their name. We only install Mitsubishi Heavy Industries. Read the full answer

How many indoor units do I need?

One for each room where the air conditioning goes. For two or three rooms, there is one outdoor unit with an indoor unit in each room; for four or more, Rein comes to take a look first. Many more combinations are possible than the examples on this site. Which combination fits depends on your rooms, the capacity needed and what is technically possible. A different combination is always agreed with Rein. More on that in Several rooms in one go.
